For three successive years Cinergy was ranked near the top of its industry sector on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes. In 2005 Cinergy was acquired by Duke Energy.

Forging New Links. Eco-Nomics LLC teamed with The Ohio State University Global Supply Chain Forum to develop a GEMI report called Forging New Links: Enhancing Supply Chain Value Through Environmental Excellence. It shows how integrating EHS skills into cross-functional business process teams can benefit both companies and their stakeholders. We also developed a companion web-based tool called the Value Wizard.
Clear Advantage. Eco-Nomics LLC teamed with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young to develop a GEMI report called Clear Advantage: Building Shareholder Value. It shows how EH&S and sustainability performance contributes to market value drivers, especially intangible assets such as innovation, reputation, human capital, and stakeholder relationships.
SD Planner Tool. While at Battelle, Joseph Fiksel teamed with the Boston Environmental Group to create a computer-based Sustainable Development Planning Tool, called SD Planner™. It enables companies to assess their sustainability practices, establish goals, identify gaps, and develop action plans.

Toward a Sustainable Cement Industry. Joseph Fiksel oversaw a landmark Battelle study of the worldwide cement industry, commissioned by WBCSD. Working with ten global cement companies, including Holcim, Lafarge, and Cemex, the team recommended pathways for the industry to pursue profitable growth in a socially responsible manner. These recommendations were largely adopted in an industry action plan announced at the Johannesburg summit in 2002. see website
Sustainable Mobility. Joseph Fiksel contributed to the infrastructure workstream of this complex project, sponsored by an international group of automotive and energy companies. The group’s most recent report, Mobility 2030: Meeting the Challenges to Sustainability, examines how human needs for mobility can be met while protecting environmental and well-being. see website
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). Joseph Fiksel led the development of an ISO 14001-compatible environmental performance measurement system for electric utilities, and helped EPRI member companies with implementation.
Electronics Industry DFE.For several leading U.S. manufacturers of electronic products, including Apple Computer and Sun Microsystems, Joseph Fiksel helped to apply Design for Environment (DFE) strategies and tools to their new product development processes.
Environmental Protection Agency. For the U.S. EPA, Office of Pollution Prevention & Toxics, Joseph Fiksel directed the development of an environmental accounting guidebook aimed at improving materials management and decision-making practices in the private sector,The Lean Green Supply Chain.
